What is a lipstick dupe? Lipstick dupes are duplicates; exact colour matches for high-end lipstick brands like MAC, Bobbi Brown, NARS, Estée Lauder, Lancôme, Chanel and Yves Saint-Laurent.
With so many lipstick brands (high-end and drugstore), colours and gorgeous formulas on the market, it’s easy to think that the higher priced “luxury brands” would be better. This is not always so, and often, the average person can’t afford to buy and use luxury brands on a daily basis. So how can you still wear that gorgeous MAC or Chanel shade?
This is where dupes (or duplicates) come in. These are more affordable drugstore brands, like Revlon, Rimmel, Maybelline, Wet ‘n Wild, Covergirl, Avon, Physician’s Formula, L’Oreal, NYX and Almay, to name a few. They have well pigmented lipsticks withe very similar in consistencies and formulas to their high-end counterparts, but at a fraction of the price. The colour match is usually very close, or even a 100% match.
I haven’t personally drawn up any lists, but the links below contain names of exact matches for most MAC lipstick colours, as well as other well-known brands of lipstick and make-up.
For a list of MAC lipstick matches visit www.glossytalk.wordpress.com and www.lipstickdupe.com
For a list of other lipstick matches, see Stay Glam, Style Democracy and Temptalia (they do make-up dupes, too, just use the refining tool on the left in this website to narrow your make-up selection to lipstick, eyeshadow, etc.)
