Pencil Eyeliners have been around for years, they’re cheap and are easier to apply than liquid or gel eyeliners, but if you find your pencil eyeliner isn’t going on smoothly it may be because its cold and waxy and just needs to be warmed up a little. The easiest way to do this is to gently rub the tip of the eyeliner back and forth on the back of your hand until it softens. You could also roll the tip between your fingertips, or some prefer to quickly heat the tip in a flame then wait a few minutes for it to cool before applying it.
White eyeliner pencils have ‘magical’ properties and can instantly brighten and whiten your eyes. When applied to the waterline (the inner rim of the bottom eyelid, the flat part just above the eyelashes) white eyeliner will brighten your eyes, making them look whiter and appear larger. This also works well if your eyes are a little bit red after a late night out, if you suffer from allergies, or if you’ve had a really bad day and there have been a few tears. Navy blue pencil eyeliner applied in the same way (on the inner rim, not under the eyelashes) can also make eyes appear whiter.
Lining the waterline of your eyes with dark eyeliner will make your eyes appear smaller. This is great for ladies with naturally large eyes, but for those of us with small eyes, it’s better to use the dark eyeliner on the bottom lid, right underneath the lash line, and then smudge the line a little to soften it, making it look more natural. Applying white eyeliner to the waterline, above the dark smudged eyeliner, will help to brighten your eyes and make them appear larger.
As we mature, certain products may not look as good as they did when we were younger, and this can apply to black eyeliner. On more mature eyes, black eyeliner can sometimes appear to be very harsh and may even appear to age your eyes, making them look older, instead of emphasizing them and making them look their best. If this is the case, try using rich dark brown or a dark charcoal grey eyeliner. These will give the same effect as black, but with a softer edge to it. Not only will it change up your usual make-up routine, but you may be surprised with the results!
Some of my favourite eyeliner pencils are Michelle Ori Crayon Contour des Yeux (Long Stay), or Chi Chi Gel Eyeliner pencils. These come in a variety of colours, they have a soft gel pencil formula that glides on easily, are long-lasting, and they’re great to use if you want to smudge them for a smokey look.
We have limited stock of eyeliner and lip liner pencils in our online store (shipping to New Zealand only).
