Description
Assorted handmade beaded hoop earrings. Most of these hoops have been made using peyote stitch.
Peyote stitch is an off-loom bead weaving technique, and can be done in flat stitch or tubular stitch. Tubular peyote is used to make pouches, bracelets, necklaces, or to decorate objects such as bottles or fan handles.
Peyote stitch can be found dating back to Ancient Egypt. The Egyptians created broad collars with the stitch, these collars are depicted on gods, kings, and others. Not only has the stitch been found in Ancient Egypt, but Native Americans have also been using it for centuries. Modern Native American beadwork uses peyote stitch in jewellery and traditional objects.
